The fourth Saturday in April is Celebrate Trails Day—April 27th this year. What better opportunity to explore a new area while enjoying the great outdoors? Our real estate agents know Stark and Summit counties backward and forward and can help you find the best trails in any neighborhood. Here are five of our favorites.
- Quail Hollow Park - 13480 Congress Lake Ave., Hartville, OH 44632
There are three trails to celebrate in Quail Hollow Park: a 3-mile biking trail, a 4.5-mile equestrian trail, and an almost 8-mile hiking trail. They all loop through beautiful forests, lush meadows, and greenery and are a great way to spend an afternoon. Located near Hartville homes for sale, Quail Hollow Park also has camping, fishing, and a historic manor house with a garden and gazebo that can be rented for weddings and other events.
- Sippo Valley Trail - 2069 Skyland Ave. NW, Massillon, OH 44647
At just over 10 miles, Sippo Valley Trail is long but gentle, with mostly flat terrain and an asphalt trail that affords a view of Sippo Creek. Located near Massillon homes for sale, it's not only great for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, it's also a perfect spot for bird watching, with plenty of unique and colorful birds to spot. And if you want to bring your pet along, they're welcome too, as long as you keep them on a leash and clean up after them.
- Hoover Trail - 1325 E. Maple St., North Canton, OH 44720
Just under 5.5 miles, Hoover Trail is made of mostly limestone, reinforced with asphalt. Located near North Canton homes for sale, April is the perfect time to see the colorful wildflowers that line the trail. Or in summer, see the red raspberry and elderberry bushes that feed the local wildlife. A tunnel under Market Avenue connects Hoover to another great local trail, Middle Branch, a 7.7-mile stretch linking several local parks. Trail parking is available at the Hoover Community Recreational Complex.
- Fort Island/Griffiths Park - 461 Trunko Road, Fairlawn, OH 44333
A 60-acre area with some of the most beautiful scenery in the area, Fort Island/Griffiths Park also has some fascinating history and folklore attached to it. Formerly a living space and hunting ground for local Native American tribes, the area's archaeological record dates back to 1000 A.D. and has several interesting geological features, such as mounds and depressions formed by glacial ice. Located near Fairlawn homes for sale, the park also features a boardwalk with 1.6 miles of paved and elevated trails that pass over peat bogs, peat forests, marshes, and wetlands. There are also plenty of beautiful birds in the area, from mallards, belted kingfishers, green and great blue herons, robins, cardinals, and more—plus snapping and painted turtles.
- Gorge Metro Park - 1160 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221
There are a couple of great trails in Gorge Metro Park. Located near Cuyahoga Falls homes for sale, Glens Trail offers breathtaking views of the Cuyahoga River, while Gorge Trail has access to Old Maid's Kitchen cave. Both trails are just under 2 miles and fairly easy hikes. Open from 6 a.m. until sunset, the park also has several picnic tables and spots for boating, fishing, and more.
