Plan a Day Trip to Summit County Metro Parks This May | DeHOFF REALTORS

Ohio is beautiful in the spring, with plenty of forests, lakes, and meadows to explore—if you know where to look for them. The Summit County Metro Parks system has some amazing parks where you can bring the family for a day trip, and our real estate agents know the ins and outs of each. Here are a few of our favorites.

Explore Metro Parks

Hampton Hills Metro Park - Akron, OH

2092 Theiss Road, Akron, OH 44313

If you're into mountain biking, Hampton Hills Metro Park is the place to visit. The trails there are perfect for it. There are also great trails for experienced hikers, such as Adam Run and Spring Hollow. And be sure to visit the beautiful Top O' the World Area, where you can explore fields and meadows filled with a diverse selection of flowers, butterflies, and birds such as:

  • Bluebirds
  • Woodcocks
  • Red-tailed hawks

There's also an archery range, picnic areas, and more. Located near Akron homes for sale, it's a perfect spring outing for the family.

Munroe Falls Metro Park - Munroe Falls, OH

521 S. River Road, Munroe Falls, OH 44262

For swimming, boating, and fishing, you can't beat Munroe Falls Metro Park. The lake is beautiful in May, with multiple easy trails running alongside it, from the quarter-mile Meadow Loop trail to the 2-mile Indian Spring Trail. Located near Munroe Falls homes for sale, the park is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. year-round and features breathtaking views of forests, meadows, and more.

O'Neil Woods Metro Park - Akron, OH

2550 Martin Road, Akron, OH 44333

Formerly the family farm of industrialist William O'Neil, O'Neil Woods Metro Park is now home to a diverse cross-section of local flora and fauna. What once was the family barn is now home to a family of bats. There are other animals to see as well, including:

  • Deer
  • Barred owls
  • Eastern box turtles

There's also great hiking. Deer Run Trail is a long and difficult hike, but it's worth the journey—the scenery is incredible, with views of Yellow Creek Tributary and the Cuyahoga River.

Springfield Bog Metro Park - Akron, OH

1400 Portage Line Road, Akron, OH 44312

One of the newer additions to the Summit County Metro Park System, Springfield Bog Metro Park has nonetheless undergone significant change. When it first opened in 2011, it was farmland. Now, a host of native plants have spread across it, turning it into a vibrant prairie. You can also see the Continental Divide, along Young's Bog, which has its own observation deck. The Prairie Trail is an easy hike and a great way to explore the entire area. It's an ideal spot for a picnic and is amazing for nature photography.

Nimisila Reservoir Metro Park - Green, OH

5541 S. Main St., Green, OH 44319

Nimisila Reservoir Metro Park is a great spot for fishing. The reservoir boasts a plethora of native fish, including:

  • Largemouth bass
  • Northern pike
  • Bluegill

There are four boat launches for electric-motor-only boats, creating a quiet, tranquil atmosphere for anglers and those who just fancy a trip on the water. It's also great for paddling and birdwatching. Located near Green homes for sale, the park is open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., but after-hours fishing is permitted at your own risk.
